Lifestyle Medicine for Weight

A healthier approach to weight loss

Ten weeks of personalised medical and lifestyle support

Losing weight can be difficult. Keeping it off can be even harder.

My 10-week weight-management programme combines an individual clinical assessment, practical lifestyle-medicine education and regular personal support. Where clinically appropriate, prescription medication may also be considered following a full consultation.

This is not a crash diet or a one-size-fits-all plan. We will work together to understand what affects your weight and develop realistic changes that fit your health, circumstances and everyday life.

More than a number on the scales

Weight is influenced by much more than willpower. Appetite, sleep, stress, hormones, health conditions, medication, habits, environment and emotional wellbeing can all play a part.

During the programme, we will look beyond short-term dieting and focus on the areas that can support both your weight and your wider health:

  • Nourishing, satisfying food

  • Movement that is realistic for you

  • Sleep and recovery

  • Stress and emotional wellbeing

  • Appetite, cravings and eating patterns

  • Daily routines and sustainable habits

  • Planning for setbacks and long-term maintenance

The aim is to help you understand your body, make informed choices and build a healthier way of living that you can continue after the programme finishes.

Support from someone who understands

I have completed training in lifestyle medicine for weight loss, but my understanding is not purely academic.

I have also experienced the frustration of trying to lose weight and keep it off. I know how discouraging repeated attempts can feel—and how easy it is to blame yourself when a plan does not work.

That experience has shaped the way I support patients: with empathy, honesty and no judgement. You will not be expected to be perfect. Instead, we will concentrate on manageable changes, learn from what happens and find an approach that works in your real life.

What the 10-week programme includes

An in-depth initial consultation

We will discuss your health, weight history, previous approaches, current medication, eating patterns, activity, sleep, stress and personal goals.

Where appropriate, we may also consider relevant measurements, medical history, recent blood-test results or whether further assessment is needed.

Your personalised plan

You will receive practical recommendations based on your health, preferences, challenges and priorities. You will not be handed a rigid diet that ignores how you live.

Lifestyle-medicine education

Each stage of the programme will help you understand an important part of weight management, including nutrition, physical activity, sleep, stress, behaviour change and long-term health.

Regular consultations

We will review your progress, discuss difficulties, recognise improvements and adjust your plan when necessary.

Medication assessment when appropriate

Prescription medication may be considered as one part of your treatment following an individual clinical assessment.

Medication is not suitable for everyone, is never guaranteed and will only be prescribed when the authorised prescriber considers it safe and clinically appropriate. The potential benefits, limitations, side effects and alternatives will be discussed with you before any decision is made.

A maintenance plan

During the final part of the programme, we will create a realistic plan for continuing your new habits, responding to setbacks and protecting the progress you have made.

Weeks 1–2: Understanding you

We explore your health, weight history, current routines and goals. Together, we identify the factors that may be helping or hindering your progress and agree on your first manageable steps.

Weeks 5–6: Movement and physical health

We explore ways to increase activity and protect strength and muscle while losing weight. Recommendations will reflect your present ability, health and preferences.

Weeks 9–10: Maintaining your progress

We review what has worked, anticipate future challenges and create a personalised maintenance plan. If medication has been prescribed, its ongoing use and monitoring will be reviewed separately according to your clinical needs.

The precise order and content may be adjusted because every person’s needs are different.

Weeks 3–4: Food, appetite and nourishment

We look at meal patterns, hunger, fullness, protein, fibre, food quality and your relationship with food. The emphasis is on satisfying, practical choices—not punishment or unnecessary restriction.

Weeks 7–8: Sleep, stress and behaviour

We examine how sleep, stress, emotions, environment and established habits can affect appetite and decision-making. You will learn practical strategies for managing difficult situations.

Is this programme for you?

The programme may be suitable if you:

  • Have lost weight before but found it difficult to maintain

  • Feel confused by conflicting diet advice

  • Want professional, non-judgemental support

  • Want to improve your health as well as your weight

  • Are interested in medication but want a complete clinical assessment

  • Are already using prescribed weight-management medication and need lifestyle support

  • Want realistic changes rather than another restrictive short-term diet

The programme may not be suitable for everyone. Your circumstances will be reviewed during the initial consultation, and you may be advised to seek support from your GP or another specialist service.

Why combine lifestyle medicine with clinical care?

Medication can be helpful for some people, but it does not teach you how to manage difficult days, plan meals, improve sleep, become more active or develop routines that support your health.

Lifestyle support and medical treatment should not compete with each other. When appropriate, they can work together.

My role is to help you understand your options and provide a safe, personalised programme that considers the whole person not simply the number on the scales.

Frequently asked questions

Will I be prescribed weight-loss medication?

Not necessarily. Medication is only considered after a clinical assessment and only when it is safe, appropriate and indicated for you. Receiving a consultation does not guarantee that medication will be prescribed.
